Boundary condition to simulate a engine without considering the engine internal flows

I am trying to simulate an aircraft external flows with engines. There is a engine nacelle there which is power on when flying. I don't want to simulate the real engine internal geometry or the movable parts, I only need the speeding-up effect.

The engine need intake air flow and eject the same flow rate with higher total pressure. So what I am seeking is a pressure boost boundary condition.

What boundary conditions should I use? Does SU2 have this kind of BC:
1: Just one baffle, one side takes in the flow and the other side spit out the flow with a pressure boost?
2: or, two BC faces, one for inlet and the other for outlet. Inlet takes in the flow, and outlet spit out the flow, using some kind of function relating the inlet and outlet, and make sure there is the same flow rate and pressure addition?

Please help out! Thanks.

Hi,

Are you referring to an actuator disk type boundary condition? If so, there is an option available in SU2 currently. You can find an example config file here https://github.com/su2code/SU2/blob/.../propeller.cfg . The corresponding mesh file is here https://github.com/su2code/TestCases/tree/master/rans/propeller
Also, there was an earlier thread (https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/su...ator-disk.html) about using actuator disk with some additional information on setting up the config file which might be useful.

Cheers.

Thank you very much, man! I guess that is it!

Hey,
Did ACT Disk solved your problem cause I am currently working on a project that is very similar to yours?.
