Hi,

After checking the internet to see if others have used SU2 for constrained gradient-based optimization in wind turbine applications, I did not find much information. The tutorials on SU2's website for constrained optimization are for flow regimes not applicable to wind turbines. I came across this article Implementation of a pressure based incompressible flow solver in SU2 for wind turbine applications which is one of the few showing the application of SU2 in wind turbine modelling.

However, there are not many references. Can someone please provide some information about the status of SU2 applied to wind turbine blade optimization (incompressible regime, low Mach number, fixed and rotating reference frame, constrained gradient-based optimization, continuous and discrete adjoints).

Thank you!

Hi,

I am still working on the pressure based solver (which is still a separate branch) and have had some limited success with wind turbine simulations with the pressure based solver. You can try it by downloading the code from https://github.com/su2code/SU2/tree/...Pressure_based and building from source. The results in that paper are from the compressible solver. It is not possible to use the pressure based with the adjoint solver.

There was a recent development that updated the rotating reference frame for the density based incompressible solver in the main branch which you can also try. I am not aware of any adjoints or optimization simulations for wind turbines however.

Cheers

Thanks for your response akoodlyr. I'll have a look and see from there.
