How is the continuous adjoint surface sensitivity defined?

Default How is the continuous adjoint surface sensitivity defined?

I looked up the SU2 website but find no equation for how surface sensitivity is defined. From description, it seems that without deformation parameter, (DV_KIND), the adjoint find the sensitivity of objective function vs mesh normal displacement by default. Am I correct. If deformation parameter is added, then adjoint solver solve the objective function respect to deformation prescribed.
