Hi,
I want to calculate both direct and adjoint problems for multi-stage turbomachinery using the harmonic balance method. I am writing to ask how these functions are supported in SU2 now. 1. For the direct simulation using HB, is the phase lag periodic BC supported? 2. Also for the direct simulation, what kind of interface BC can be applied between the stator and the rotor? 3. Is there any extra treatment needed for the discrete adjoint simulation for this multi-stage problem with HB method? I would like to try to develop or test some of these functions, and maybe I can make a test case. Looking forward to the reply, thanks. Zhen |

There are still research groups working on this, but not everything is currently available. Some work is currently being done to make models available to the general public.
There are no tutorials at the moment for what is available but there are some test cases in the Testcases folder on github: https://github.com/su2code/SU2/tree/...rmonic_balance Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can answer your questions in more detail. What I understood from a meeting this week is that the adjoint is currently not supported for the harmonic balance method. We would welcome your help in bringing additional functionality (or tutorials, documentation, etc.) into SU2. If you want to add some functionality, please consider joining our SU2 slack channel or visit the weekly developers meeting. |

Thank you for your reply.
If the adjoint method is not ready for HB now, I plan to try the unsteady adjoint. I am very willing to join the developers meeting and make some modification to SU2. I am not a skillful programmer, so maybe I will start with some simple things. Also looking forward to detailed answers to the above questions. Thanks in advance. Zhen |

Hi,
My experience in using SU2 is limited. https://github.com/su2code/SU2/tree/...turbomachinery you can see the above test case for multi-stage turbomachinery. As for LES, I noticed that there is a solver option named "FEM_LES" for finite element Large Eddy Simulation. Zhen |
