How to read tecplot file witout tecplot ?
 

Hi everybody,

I have few tecplot file (.plt) generated by a program, but I don't have Tecplot. Do you know a free clone of Tecplot I could use to display my graphics, or do you know how to convert these files into any free software format?

Did you store in ascii or binary format ? . The ascii format can possibly be opened as a text file and modified to be read in some other visualizer.I'm not sure of the binary format though.

Anyway, you still have the solution of installing the tecplot demo, read your file, and then export it in another format.

You can try Visit. It takes tecplot files but you may need to make small modifications.

if ur file is acci, GID can import it, but note that somethies it is required to do small modification on header of file, as GID is sensitive to them.

note that GID is commercial but its 1-month (sensitive only to date of your OS) full-work version is free for educational purpose.

Also, prior to test, i can test it for u (save ur time), if your files are not too big send me one of them (rohtav@gmail.com), in zipped format i try and notify u.

I will not use the soft for educational use, but for commercial use. In this case, I don't think GID will be the good soft for me.

Hi, I just saw that visit/vtk can read tecplot files. It's opensource and for windows and linux.
