Extracting exact coordinates of slice intersecting with the domain

Hi,
I am validating a CFD simulation and would like to extract data on a given plane, in order to average over the span. I noticed however that Tecplot's (inverse distance) interpolation of the required variables from the flow field file (expored from Fluent) to the desired plane leads to some oscillations in the final plotted profiles. Here I should note that both the Fluent flow field file with the flow variables, as well as the surface on which interpolation will be realized are loaded into Tecplot.

I assume that this inaccuracy is due to the introduction of the externally created surface and the interpolation realized thereafter.

I would thus like to create a slice and then extract the exact coordinates of the points which result from the intersection of the slice with the CFD domain.
How is that possible?

Thanks!
Leonidas

Hi Leonidas,

To extract a slice, you want to make sure the slice is in the desired location. Then you go to Data > Extract >Current Slices. This will then extract the slice to a new zone.

I am not sure if you are aware, but there is an arbitrary slice option that allows you to create a slice and position it arbitrarily. You can do this by adding a slice, go into the slice details dialog and choose "arbitrary" in the Slice Location drop down menu. You can then press the button next to the slice details dialog in the plot sidebar which will toggle on a rod. You can then grab the rod and move your mouse around to change the slice plane location. This can also be extracted.

Is this what you were hoping to do?

Slice from arbitrary plane

In previous tecplot versions there was the option to create the slice defining a plane passing through three points. In Teplot 2016 I Can't find this option. Does anyone know how can i do this?

This feature is available in Tecplot 360 2017 R1 and later. It's now available as part of the Slice Details dialog when you select the Arbitrary slice type.
