Masters Thesis Title: Modeling of unsteady aerodynamic flow over wing using
viscous 3D vortex particle method 

Scope:To calculate the unsteady aerodynamic flow over wind or lifting surface,
boundary element method can be used e.g. the panel method. However, the panel
method alone cannot simulate the flow separation and also doesn’t account for
the viscous effect which is very important in unsteady load calculation.
Therefore, the proposed master thesis will focus on the development of a hybrid
boundary element method which can be fast compared to CFD and can simulate the
viscous effect using the boundary layer theory and the shear layer separation
will be modeled using the 3D vortex particle method.  
This kind of tool has great application in fast load calculation for aeroelastic
analysis in power turbine blade cascade, wind turbine or rotor craft load
estimation. The master student will spend time to read the state of the art and
formulate an algorithm to model the 3D flow field around a wing and an isolated
blade. For the numerical implementation, either MATLAB or FORTRAN or C/ C++ or
Python can be used depending upon the choice. 
Required qualification: Masters degree/ Bachelors Student in the field of
Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Computational engineering/ Physics/ Naval Engineering or
similar. Good understanding of fluid mechanics/ aerodynamics, good analytical
and mathematical skills, good programming skills in any of the above languages
will be advantageous. Working knowledge of English language will be preferred.

Note: This is not a job post. This is a Masters thesis/ Internship research
topic for final year Masters (MSc) students. The applicant of this research
topic has to have an internal supervisor in their home university. The Masters
thesis is Unpaid.
