Within our Research and Innovation group, we are currently seeking for a: 


Work description:
In nuclear energy applications, the quest for more energy production has 
resulted in more powerful nuclear reactors, with larger and slender 
components, more intense thermal energies, higher velocities and densities of 
the working fluids. In order to prevent possible damages and safety issues in 
nuclear reactors, it is important to ensure that the structural integrity of 
any critical component is not compromised by the (unavoidable) flow-induced 
mechanical vibrations.
To this purpose, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) simulations will be used to 
study the dynamics of structures vibrating in turbulent fluid flows.

This MSc thesis project includes the following activities:

1) Literature review of flow induced vibrations and related phenomena in 
nuclear applications.

2) Performing FSI numerical simulations of turbulent flow induced vibrations 
with in-house and commercial codes. 

3) Analysis of the results related to fluid dynamics and structural mechanics 

4) Development and implementation of numerical methods to improve and/or 
extent the current capabilities of the codes.
5) Preparation of the MSc thesis.                

Your profile:

* MSc student in engineering or applied science with some experience in fluid 
dynamics simulations
* Good knowledge of computational fluid dynamics, dynamics of structures and 
numerical methods
* Required computer experience: Linux, Windows, C++
* Fluency in written and spoken English
* Good analytical and problem solving skills
* Dedicated, good communication and social skills
