Description:
One PhD position is immediately available during the academic year Fall 2021 
at the Computational Fluids Lab - Department of Civil and Environmental 
Engineering, North Dakota State University (NDSU). The goal of this PhD 
project is to develop a new generation of Fluid-Structure Interaction 
numerical algorithms to study cancer cell migration under metastasis.

Candidates with strong interests in numerical methods are encouraged to 
apply. All backgrounds from physics, applied mathematics, and engineering 
are welcomed. Although familiarity with Linux, C/C++, Python, TensorFlow, 
MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Julia are preferred, no programming background is 
required. In addition, there is no requirement on being familiar with cancer 
cell modeling either.

The PhD position is funded by the National Science Foundation ND ACES 
project (Award # 1946202 -
https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1946202). ND-ACES will 
expand capacity be leveraging investments to generate new knowledge and 
increase North Dakota's competitiveness in biosciences by working 
collaboratively within the Center for Cellular Biointerfaces in Science and 
Engineering (CCBSE). The CCBSE has three pillars of scientific inquiry: 
materials design at biointerfaces; cellular systems at materials interface; 
and computation, machine learning, and predictive modeling.

This position is expected to be covered free tuition and (minimum of) $1,700 
stipend (TA/RA). NDSU offers an excellent accommodations for graduate

city of Fargo and the metro areas (the City of West Fargo and the City of 
Moorhead) is famous for its friendliness and safety. Fargo is ranked number

According to Wikipedia and ND tourism agencies: Fargo is a city in and the 
county seat of Cass County, North Dakota, United States. Being the most 
populous city in the state, it accounts for nearly 17% of the state 
population. According to the 2019 United States Census estimates, its 
population was 124,662. Fargo, along with its twin city of Moorhead, 
Minnesota, as well as the adjacent cities of West Fargo, North Dakota and 
Dilworth, Minnesota, form the core of the Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN Metropolitan 
Statistical Area. The MSA had a population of 257,000 in 2020. The Fargo of 
today is a vibrant downtown of unique lodging, eating establishments and 
entertainment venues. The metro area has several colleges and an active arts 
community. North Dakota is famous for its natural beauties. The North 
Country National Scenic Trail is the longest hiking trail in the entire 
United States.
