About the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics

For 65 years as international center of excellence in fluid dynamics, the von Karman Institute brings together young engineers and scientists from all over the world to study, improve their skills and perform their research.

The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics provides postgraduate education in fluid dynamics and encourages creative research via “training in research through research” in computational methods and experimental techniques.

The Turbomachinery and Propulsion department at VKI, jointly with the Environmental and Applied Fluid Dynamics department, calls for candidates for a full-time assistant or associate professor with a tentative starting date of May 2021 for the field of Aeroelasticity of Turbomachinery and Wind Energy.

The Environmental and Applied Fluid Dynamics department focuses on heat, mass and momentum transfer, and aeroacoustics in single and multiphase-flows in the built environment, including wind energy and wind engineering, and in industrial flows and safety processes, including nuclear engineering. The Turbomachinery and Propulsion department focuses on aero- thermal research for future ultra-high efficiency and decarbonization technologies, employing testing facilities, developing measurement systems, and advancing multi-disciplinary optimization and machine learning methodologies for turbomachinery in propulsion and energy conversion.

Your mission

The objective of this new faculty position is to expand research and education in the interdisciplinary field of fluid structure interaction in turbomachinery and wind turbine applications.

The successful candidate will teach in the accredited VKI Research Master and should develop a funded research program in collaboration with other VKI departments.

Your skills

Applications must hold a doctoral degree on a subject of relevance and be particularly profiled with applying and developing computational methods. Previous experience with experimental methods in Aeroelasticity is of advantage.
