Description:
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Position within Warwick FIRE, 
University of Warwick.  

The Fellow will be responsible for developing and validating a LES based 
predictive tool to facilitate three-dimensional predictions of fire whirls. 
These are whirling flames, which can result from the interaction between the 
right combination of wind and fire in wildfires. The research will also 
involve the modelling of blue whirls, an exciting new phenomenon revealed by 
laboratory experiments in which a traditional fire whirl that underwent what 
is thought to be a bubble mode of vortex breakdown and result in soot free 
blue (fire) whirl, giving a glimpse of hope for combustion with reduced 
pollution.

The position is available from 1 October 2021 for two years. Salaries will 
be in the range of £30942 ~ £34804, subject to UK income tax. 
You should hold a PhD (or be expecting the imminent award of one) in 
mechanical, chemical engineering or a related discipline. Experience in CFD 
modelling of turbulent combustion is essential. Preferences will be given to 
candidates with experience in OpenFOAM development.
