One PhD position is immediately available during the academic semester 
Spring 2022 at the Computational Fluids Lab - Department of Civil and 
Environmental Engineering, North Dakota

State University (NDSU) (https://sites.google.com/view/complexfluidlab/). 
The goal of this PhD project is to develop a new generation of Fluid-
Structure Interaction numerical algorithms to study particle dynamics in 
viscous and turbulent flows.

Candidates with strong interests in numerical methods are encouraged to 
apply. A background of Mechanical or Civil Engineering is required for this 
project although others from physics, applied mathematics, and engineering 
might be considered. Although familiarity with 

Linux, C/C++,  TensorFlow, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Julia are preferred, at least 
experiences with Python and MATLAB programming is required. In addition, it 
is essential that the candidate must have a strong background in Fluid 
Mechanics. In addition to the admission requirements by the NDSU Graduate 
School (GPA, SOP, LORs, IELTS, TOEFL, GRE) at 
https://www.ndsu.edu/gradschool/apply, interested candidates should send a

The email should have the term "US-DOT PhD Student Application" in the title 
of the email to avoid confusion. The application must be completed before 
November/01/2021 for full consideration. The PhD position is funded by the 
United States Department of Transportation.

This position is expected to be covered free tuition and (minimum of) $1,300 
stipend (TA/RA). NDSU offers an excellent accommodations for graduate 
students and  and their family members with graduate student housing on 
campus.

The city of Fargo and the metro areas (the City of West Fargo and the City 
of Moorhead) is famous for its friendliness and safety. Fargo is ranked 
number #10 for the most livable cities in the United States.

According to Wikipedia and ND tourism agencies: Fargo is a city in and the 
county seat of Cass County, North Dakota, United States. Being the most 
populous city in the state, it accounts for nearly 17% of the state 
population. According to the 2019 United States Census estimates, its 
population was 124,662. Fargo, along with its twin city of Moorhead, 
Minnesota, as well as the adjacent cities of West Fargo, North Dakota and 
Dilworth, Minnesota, form the core of the Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN Metropolitan 
Statistical Area. The MSA had a population of 257,000 in 2020.

The Fargo of today is a vibrant downtown of unique lodging, eating 
establishments and entertainment venues. The metro area has several colleges 
and an active arts community. North Dakota is famous for its natural 
beauties. The North Country National Scenic Trail is the longest hiking 
trail in the entire United States.
