This exciting PhD post, within a creative and productive team is about latest 
developments at the cross section be-tween numerical simulation, cloud computing 
and ANN technology. 


• Creative, independent an high-quality aR&D at the crooss section between 
numerical simulation, cloud computing and ANN technoloogy
• Development of ANNs to (partially) take oover the functionality of 
advanced numerical simulation software
• Develop and apply Invertible Neural Networks (INNs) to solve forward and 
inverse problems correlating numerically predicted physical properties of porous 
media to material parameters
• Establish cloud-computing-based workflow to allow users to train their 
own ANNs/INNs by creating simulation data online
• Develop solutions for software based integration of numerical simulation 
tools and ANN technoloogy into a high yield cloud platform
• Interpret experimental results and simulated results regarding physical 
properties of porous media


• Master Degree in Engineering Sciences, Software Development, Mathematics 
or Physics
• Knowledge about and application experience concerning Artificial 
Intelligence Software is a must
• Knowledge about and application experience concerning Numerical 
Simulation Software is a bonus, where knowledge of OpenFOAM is counted as big 
• Knowledge about and application experience concerning Cloud Technology 
is a bonus
• Advanced skills in software development are a big bonus
• Drive to quickly move R&D results to application
• High committment towards excellency
• 100% fluency in written and oral English is a must, skills in German are 
a bonus
• Good in presenting
• Willingness to spend 12-14 weeks (= one lecture semester) at partner 
University (UiT Arctic University of Norway), if need be


• Self-efficient, high-quality R&D in the cited fields
• Regular presentation of advances to development partners from industry 
and colleagues in academia, at scientific conferences and regular (online) 
• Finding creative, efficient and mainly: working solutions
• Always find ways to consider inputs from supervisor(s) and development 
• Simultaneously focus on industrial as well as academics requirements
• Actively push work towards publishable results; Publishing results in 
high-quality journals is essential
