Description:
Start your mission with DLR

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research
centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here, 10,000
employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of
aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation. Their
missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications
and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent minds –
particularly more females – at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in
an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.

For our Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology in Göttingen, we wish to
recruit a qualified

Engineer mechanical engineering, aerospace technology, Mathematician, Physicist
(f/m/x)

Development and application of a rapid-CFD capability based on the next-
generation CFD code developed by Airbus, ONERA and DLR

Your mission:
The Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology is a leading research
institute in the field of aerodynamics/aeroacoustics of airplanes and
aerothermodynamics of space vehicles.

The C²A²S²E department develops numerical methods for multidisciplinary
simulation and optimization of air vehicles. Besides physical modeling of
complex flows and the development of modern numerical algorithms, our research
activities cover the software-based integration of all relevant disciplines, the
development of efficient optimization strategies as well as surrogate modeling
based on higher fidelity methods.

The core task of the position is the development and application of a rapid-CFD
capability to be pursued based on the CFD-Code CODA, which is being developed
collaboratively by Airbus, ONERA and DLR. The rapid-CFD capability comprises
automatic octree-based cartesian mesh generation using the Cassiopée code, which
is passed on to CODA via the FlowSimulator Data Manager (FSDM) platform and, the
application of a RANS solver in CODA utilizing Immersed Boundary Methods (IBM)
in conjunction with wall models. The focus of the offered position is on setting
up the overall workflow (Cassiopée → FSDM → CODA) and the automation of the
interaction of these components.

Foreign applicants are encouraged to apply for the position with a DAAD-

Your qualifications:
• PhD/Promotion in the field of Engineering or Sciences
• In-depth knowledge and experience in the field of numerical fluid mechanics
and its algorithms, preferably Immersed Boundary Conditions
• In-depth knowledge and experience in the field of mesh generations, preferably
octree-based cartesian meshes
• In-depth knowledge in advanced programming languages (Python, C++), experience
in software development in a team is preferred.
• Strong teamwork and results-oriented working skills
• Good oral and written communication skills in English, German skills are a
