Job Description
Senior Scientist, Computational Modeling

Job Summary:
Alcyone Therapeutics is developing novel gene therapies based on unique platforms 
for genetic modification combined with precision dosing and delivery of viral 
vectors.  The company is focusing on neurological disorders, including several 
orphan indications. The Senior Scientist, Computational Modeling will work to 
apply advanced computational modeling techniques to solve complex biophysical 
problems related to drug delivery to the central nervous system.  Examples of

This position will include 1) a leadership role within our Precision Delivery 
Research Group to build a computational modeling-focused team, 2) strategic 
analysis and integration of computational modeling techniques to the Alcyone 
device and drug development pipeline, 3) interaction across business units to seek 
out new applications for computational modeling that drive future innovation, 4) 
disclosure, filing and diligence surrounding computational modeling intellectual 
property, and 5) interaction with thought-leaders in the field and publication of 
findings in leading peer-reviewed journals.   

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
•	Development of parallel simulations for addressing 
turbulent/laminar/reactive flows and multiphase flows in complex geometries with 
dynamic mesh motion representative of solute transport within the central nervous 
•	Understanding and extending turbulent and laminar reactive flow solution 
methods with multiphase flows, and dynamic mesh motion, on HPC systems.
•	Design and development of User Defined Functions (UDF) for application to 
a broad range CFD problems including oscillatory boundary conditions, phase 
changing, mass transport and mesh deformations.
•	Experience with PDE modeling of PBPK and PKPD dynamics of drug movement 
through body systems.
•	Application of AI / ML / Deep learning for automated analysis of IHC / MRI 
/ PET / SPECT imaging of the brain and/or body tissues.
•	Interaction with other team members on: Medical image analysis, 
Experimental modeling, model and algorithm development and implementation related 
to CSF dynamics, application of the software for multiphase flows in central 
nervous systems inclusive of intrathecal CSF.

Essential Responsibilities/Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each 
essential function satisfactorily:
•	Conduct multiphase flow and dynamic mesh modeling
•	Perform simulations using finite element methods, post processing software 
(Tecplot and/or Paraview), and particle tracking methods
•	Apply expertise in turbulent/laminar modeling techniques for multiphase 
variable-density/reacting flow simulations that represent solute transport in the 
central nervous system
•	Conduct numerical simulations, in particular simulations developed within 
the ANSYS and/or OpenFoam, or similar environment
•	Utilize expertise in MATLAB, C/C++ (for UDF coding) and knowledge of grid 
generation for complex geometries with commercial and/or open-source software
•	Strong communication and language skills 
•	Represent Precision Delivery at project team meetings (as needed) and work 
effectively within cross-functional teams to design a comprehensive and robust set 
of studies supporting Precision Delivery Research Group to the CNS and drug-device 
therapy development.
•	Comply with Alcyone’s Quality Management Systems for device development 
and gene therapy
•	Perform all administrative activities associated with the functional area. 
This will include supporting the department’s goals and objectives, as well as 
developing and managing study budgets. 
•	This position reports to the VP of Research, Drug Delivery, and CSF 
Sciences, Dr. Bryn Martin

•	University/college degree required, PhD or master’s degree required in 
engineering, especially mechanical, aeronautical, or bioengineering
•	Demonstrated knowledge and experience and a strong publication and 
presentation record in computational modeling of CNS solute transport
•	Training/Expertise in statistical analysis of biological studies 
•	Minimum of 2+ years of industry experience in a biotechnology or start-up 
environment or academia, preferably working on programs in CNS solute transport 
within cell or gene therapy.
•	Peer-reviewed published papers in the area of CSF solute transport, brain 
solute transport, and/or biofluids / biomechanics modeling research.

Location and Work Schedule:
This position is located in Moscow, ID, U.S.A.  
Monday to Friday
Typically 3 days in person in the office (MWF), 2 days remote (T,Th)
