Job Description:
Two PhD Studentships in coupled numerical modeling of Fluid-Structure interaction
problems with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and Peridynamics (PD) methods
(Updated, 15.10.2021)

The main focus of our proposed project is to utilize the advantages of SPH and
PD methods in the modeling of large deformations and discontinuities in both
solid and fluid domains, including crack propagation and failure of the solid
material. We aim to develop a successful model for the simulation of various 2D
and 3D hydroelasticity problems, which investigates the behavior of elastic
solid structures under hydrodynamic forces.

In this regard, suggested studies of the applicant include
- Contribution on the development of a GPU parallelized (CUDA) multi-physics
computer code using SPH and PD methods based on our research group's existing
in-house C++ and Fortran and CUDA C++ computer codes of SPH and PD,
- Formulating novel algorithms for emerging incompressible SPH approaches (PhD
student 1)
- Develop new algorithms and approaches for the fast-growing Peridynamics method
and possibly collaborate on the state-of-the-art research in materials science
conducted in Sabanci University Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research
and Application Center (PhD student 2)
- Development of efficient and precise coupling strategies, and linking boundary
treatments between PD and SPH particle approaches,
- Taking part in the experimental hydroelasticity investigations.

Requirements:
- Master's degree or equivalent in fluid (PhD student 1) and solid (PhD student
2) mechanics related disciplines
- Proficiency in coding. Familiarity with Fortran and/or C++, and preferably
with CUDA programming languages
- Fluent command of written and spoken English
