Development of advanced tools for mathematical and numerical modelling of multi-
phase and multi-physical phenomena in order to improve sustainability and energy 
saving in refrigeration processes.

twin to improve appliances environmental sustainability
The PhD project will focus on the mathematical modelling and simulation of
multiphase-multiphysics phenomena in home appliances such as refrigerators,
dishwashers, ovens, washing machines, etc. The virtualization of this type of
appliance requires complex multiphysics and multiphase numerical simulations
which are usually associated with prohibitive computational costs and simulation
times. The scope of the PhD project is to develop advanced numerical tools that
permit to reduce the computational burden associated with this kind of 
simulations
employing reduced order modelling techniques and state-of-the-art machine
learning tools. For the development of efficient and reliable reduced order 
models
the use of numerical simulation will be completed by experimental data. The
reduction of the computational cost will enable the use of efficient digital 
twins in
order to properly monitor and control important parameters during the whole life 
of
the products. In all the mentioned home appliances, an important aspect is 
related
to the humidity management and the use of the developed digital twins could 
allow
to control and monitor in real time the distribution of humidity, and 
condensation of
evaporation phenomena. This real-time control would have a huge impact for the
production of a new generation of optimized energy-efficient devices with less
waste of food and water
