TitleGraduate studies in Mathematics at ICTS-TIFR & TIFR-CAM
CategoryPhD Studentship
EmployerTIFR, ICTS, CAM
LocationIndia, Karnataka, Bangalore
InternationalNo, only national applications will be considered
Closure Date* None *
Description:

The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) and the Centre for Applicable Mathematics (TIFR-CAM) jointly invites applications for doctoral research in Mathematics. ICTS and CAM are two centres of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) located in North Bangalore and are roughly 10 kms apart. Students enrolled in the CAM-ICTS joint PhD program will be part of a vibrant academic atmosphere with opportunities to work with faculty members at both institutions.

ICTS is a novel institution with a three-pronged mandate: to conduct world-class research in theoretical sciences, to provide a platform to organize various visitor-driven programs for the benefit of the wider scientific community, and to spread scientific temper and the spirit of inquiry through public outreach activities. The Mathematics wing of ICTS hosts research groups in mathematical physics, geometry, topology, probability, partial differential equations and dynamical systems, numerical analysis, and geophysical fluid dynamics. In addition to faculty members in Mathematics, students at ICTS have the opportunity to work on physics research problems with physics faculty members.

TIFR-CAM is a unique applied mathematics institute in India known for its interdisciplinary research across a range of themes. CAM is home to prominent faculty members with research expertise in analysis of partial differential equations, compressible and geophysical fluid dynamics, stochastic modeling, probability, inverse problems, and data analysis.

The applied and computational mathematics branch of the CAM-ICTS PhD program has researchers focusing on fluid dynamics, turbulence, dynamical systems and big data research problems. The CAM-ICTS PhD program encourages applications from students from diverse academic backgrounds, especially engineering degree holders, to work on these interdisciplinary research problems.
