Description:
Project Description

The aims of this project is to develop new strategies for rapid transonic drag prediction at the early stages of aircraft design, as part of a large
collaborative project with industry and other academic partners. Transonic
aerodynamics is highly nonlinear, making the prediction of drag
extremely challenging. We are seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to develop
new methodologies to address this challenge, using a range of fidelities of
aerodynamic analysis tools. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with
a PhD (or about to obtain one) in computational aerodynamics and/or transonic
flows, for a period of 30 months. Extensive experience in scripting languages
such as Python or MatLab is essential. Experience with design approaches, such
as machine learning, surrogate modelling, optimisation etc. would also be an
advantage. Candidates should have a strong enthusiasm for aerodynamics and
computational methods.

The main responsibilities include:

- develop new strategies for rapid transonic drag prediction;

- CFD workflows, including geometry preparation, meshing, and post-processing;

- integration and automation of analysis and design tools.

The post holder must have:

- Doctoral degree (or thesis submitted).

- Experience in external flow/aerodynamics.

- Python/MatLab software development experience (essential).

The project duration is 30 months.
