Description:
One new Ph.D. position is now available in the Computational Mechanics Lab at 
the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Prospective students will 
work on high-order computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods and scientific 
machine learning with applications to complex fluid flows, such as those from 
renewable energy, atmospheric boundary layers, and hypersonics. The ideal 
candidate is expected to have the following qualifications:

•	A Bachelor or equivalent degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, 
Scientific Computing, etc.), applied mathematics, or related fields. Applicants 
with an MS degree are preferred.
•	Strong programming skills with C/C++ or equivalent languages.
•	Good mathematical background, and basic understanding of CFD.
•	Self-motivated, mature, and good communication and writing skills.

The UMBC campus is located on 500 acres in the suburban Baltimore-Washington 
corridor, which is a hub for public and private innovation and research. The 
campus’s proximity to Washington, DC offers opportunities to engage in both 
technology and policy development with governmental agencies and nongovernmental 
organizations. The bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park, a 71-acre community 
housing over 110 companies engaged in research, entrepreneurship, and economic 
development is located on the UMBC campus. BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and 
regional train stations are a 10-minute drive from campus.

Financial support for full tuition and competitive stipend will be provided, 
contingent on satisfactory performance. Applicants should send a cover letter
