Institution: National Cheng Kung University (NCKU)
Location: Tainan, Taiwan
Application Deadline: 15th May 2025
Start Date: Flexible / As soon as possible
Position Description:
The Physiomech Group (PMG) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, National
Cheng Kung University, is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral
researcher to join our interdisciplinary team. This role is part of an ambitious
initiative to advance digital twin technologies for biomedical applications,
particularly the development of digital organ systems based on poroelastic
modelling.
The successful candidate will contribute to pioneering research in computational
mechanics, with a strong focus on implementing advanced simulation techniques
grounded in poroelastic theory. Responsibilities include developing and
maintaining robust numerical solvers using the Finite Element Method (FEM) or
Finite Volume Method (FVM), and optimising these codes for large-scale parallel
execution on high-performance computing platforms.
This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of
computational science, biomechanics, and clinical translation, addressing
multiscale and multiphysics challenges central to digital health and precision
medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and optimise numerical models using FEM or FVM.
* Conduct large-scale simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) platforms
using MPI/OpenMP or equivalent.
* Perform modelling and analysis of poroelastic media for applications in
biomedical and engineering sciences.
* Collaborate with other researchers in cross-disciplinary projects and
contribute to scientific publications.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Physics,
or related fields.
* Strong experience in numerical modelling using FEM or FVM.
* Solid programming skills (C/C++, Fortran, or Python).
* Experience with parallel computing (e.g., MPI, OpenMP, CUDA) is highly
desirable.
* Background in poromechanics or CFD is a strong plus.
* Experience on the Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation
(PETSc) platform.
* Excellent communication skills in English.
Salary and Benefits:
The monthly salary will be in accordance with the official postdoctoral pay
scale of National Cheng Kung University, ranging from NTD 63,110 to NTD 86,060.
This includes health and labour insurance, as well as pension contributions, and
will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, academic background,
and relevant experience. Additional performance-based bonuses may be awarded in
recognition of significant contributions to project milestones.
Application Instructions:
* Interested applicants should send the following documents in a single PDF file
to Mr. James Yang (p88114022@gs.ncku.edu.tw).
* A full curriculum vitae (including a list of publications and a brief summary
of research experience)
* Contact information of at least two academic referees (email addresses only –
no reference letters needed at this stage)
* Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
