TitlePostdoc in high-speed boundary layers at GSSI
CategoryPostDoc Position
EmployerGran Sasso Science Institute
LocationItaly, L'Aquila
InternationalYes, international applications are welcome
Closure DateMonday, January 26, 2026
Description:
A postdoctoral position is available in the Fluid Mechanics group at the Gran Sasso
Science Institute (GSSI). The position is funded
through the HYPEROUGH project (Hypersonic Turbulent Boundary Layers over Rough Surfaces),
supported by EOARD, and is available for a
duration of two years.

The HYPEROUGH project aims to investigate supersonic and hypersonic turbulent boundary
layers over rough surfaces using direct numerical
simulations, with the goal of developing physics-based predictive models for wall heat
transfer and aerodynamic drag.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Fluid Mechanics and have a proven track record of high-
quality research. Priority will be given to
candidates with experience in high-speed turbulent flows, wall turbulence, and large-scale
numerical simulations. Previous work on rough-
wall turbulence will be considered an additional asset.

The position includes a competitive salary and full social security coverage, according to
GSSI regulations. The successful candidate will
join an international research environment and will have access to high-performance
computing facilities and support. The postdoctoral
researcher will run high-fidelity simulations, analyze turbulent-flow data, and present
results at international conferences, for which
dedicated travel funds are available.

For inquiries about the project or the position, candidates may contact Dr. Davide
Modesti.

Applications must be submitted through the GSSI website:
https://applications.gssi.it/postdoc no later than 15:00 on 26 January 2026.
Candidates should upload the following documents:

- Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications

- Research statement relevant to the HYPEROUGH project

- Publications in PDF format (no more than three; the PhD thesis may be included among the
three)

- Academic qualifications and supporting documents in PDF format (e.g., MSc and PhD
certificates, additional relevant certifications)

- Valid identification document
