I'm thinking of purchasing an Intel Core 2 Duo machine, and I'd like to know if there are any issues running OpenFOAM on this architecture, as well as the most straightforward linux distro to use.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Yup, I am developing on an Intel CoreDuo and the performance is quite good. If you run 2-way parallel it's even better.

My Linux distro is SuSe 10.1 and foam-wise it works fine. There are some minor glitches on my laptop but overall it's very usable.

I am about to try CoreDuo-specific ompiler options on Intel-9.1 compiler. Having in mind the performance is already pretty hot, don't expect huge differences.

Enjoy,

Hrv
