Paraview- Delaunay triangulation Quires

Hi friends,
I have few quires about paraview

1.what is the use of 2D & 3D Delaunay triangulation in paraview and its
applications

2. Its possible to do meshing in paraview? I hope its a post processing
software

kindly let me know

Thanks for your valuable time

regards,
kunar

They can transform polygonal or point geometries into triangle surfaces.

This is essentially related to the previous question. The idea is that ParaView can filter data in ways that its result can be used as pre-processing data for other simulations. For example, it can help you create a simple geometry and then export it to STL.
Meshes on the other hand, it depends. Strictly speaking, the best you can do with ParaView is to:
  • Generate surface meshes, with the filters from the first question.
  • Generate structured or unstructured meshes, from already existing points and connection indicators.
So, as I wrote above: you can use filters to modify/alter already existing data; or you can generate basic shapes, by using the items from the "Source" menu.

Bruno

Paraview- Delaunay triangulation Quires

Thanks for your reply wyldckat,

1) I go through para view manual they mention if there is set of data by using-that, its possible to do surface mesh I hope this is correct. For example If you have set of data how to make geometry and how to generate
surface mesh by using paraview. If you have any idea, kindly help me

2) connection indicators and already existing points ( I hope set of data) means what, from that how to make geometry and Generate structured or unstructured meshes is it really possible in paraview?

Warm & Best Regards,
kunar

Help for Surface Meshing in Paraview

Greetings wyldckat & other OF friends,

I am trying to do surface meshing in paraview, I import my data its shows points but i don't how to make geometry.Anybody have an idea kindly guide me

Thanks for your valuable time

Hi Kumar,

Can you please provide a simple example file? Otherwise it'll be very complicated to help you.

Bruno

Hai wyldckat,

Please find the attached file and image for your kind perusal.

In excel file,
1st row gives - complete geometry
2nd row gives- another complete geometry with different orientation

Thanks for your valuable Time

Hi Kumar,

No wonder you're having a hard time getting this to work!
Why are you defining all points in a single row?
Why don't you have 1 point (namely the values X,Y,Z) per row?

Attached is an example of what I mean, which should be the points from your first row, in a proper table-like format ;)

Then on ParaView, all you have to do is:
  1. Open the CSV file.
  2. Apply the filter "Table to Points" and associate to each axis the respective column.
  3. Then apply the filter "Delaunay 3D".
  4. And open a new 3D view: http://paraview.org/Wiki/ParaView/Displaying_Data

As for what I said about "Generate structured or unstructured meshes", you should also have seen the filter named "Table To Structured Grid", which allows you to use points from a table to generate a structured grid. For more information:
Keep in mind that unstructured grids can be a serious complicated to create :(

Bruno

Really thanks wyldckat, Right now its works fine.

Apologize for putting the data like that.Because I try to plot the data in Matlab, that's why i kept like that.

I follow the steps what you mention, but I am not able to create structured grid. In filters--> alphabetical--> Table to structured grid it shows visibility hide. I go through your all link, I tried many times it shows the error for creating grid.Kindly let me know how to create structured grid. Kindly See the attached image for your perusal.

Hi Kumar,

I thought you had understood the idea behind the structured grid.
ParaView is not able to guess what you are trying to achieve! You have to give a CSV file that has got all of the points for the structured grid.

Either that, or you need to at least provide all of the points along each major axis, so that ParaView can cross-reference the points for generating the final mesh.

edit: I forgot to mention that for you to see the grid, you need to change the representation from "Surface" to "Surface with edges".

Bruno

Thanks wyldckat for your help, finally I understand thanks a lot.

Kindly see this you tube link [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pP2hFbcqw4 ]

I already design this vehicle in catia. I want to see the buoyancy lift & Buoyancy drag. I create meshing in ICEM CFD, But I want to flap all the paddle up & down. In fluent UDF is there, but I want to do in Open Foam is Its Possible?

For example if left side paddle flaps very less speed when compared to right side paddle it turns left, similarly for all orientation ie pitch, roll, Hovering ( its all depends the variation of speed in that paddle)

Kindly give your suggestion, how I can solve and set case file for this problem in open foam. I already go through all tutorials in PimpleDyMFoam.

Thanks for your valuable time

Greetings Kumar,

Please don't ask unrelated questions on existing threads, as it will only confuse conversations.
I've seen just now that you've also asked this same question elsewhere, which I've moved to a new thread: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...ng-paddle.html

Best regards,
Bruno

Thanks wyldckat,

I understand the problem, because its not related to this area, I don't know how to delete that post, Afterwards only I started new thread, its possible to delete the unusual post in my account?

Thanks for your valuable Time

wyldckat July 21, 2013 05:44

Hi Kumar,

You can edit your own posts ;)

Deleting is only possible for the moderators and administrators, to avoid confusion in the forum.

If you can contact a moderator through a private message and ask to move or delete a post/thread you've made and that you noticed that was posted in the wrong forum or thread.
If you haven't seen the updated rules - http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/misc.php?do=showrules - this explained there in #6 ;)
