Symmetry feature in ANSYS Meshing
 

Hello everyone.

I'm running simulations in CFX with a very large geometry, which ends up having very large numbers of elements in the mesh as well.

In answer to this problem (it is a problem because of data storage capacity and computational capacity as well) I chose to cut the geometry in half, after studying if this geometric symmetry would also correspond to the flow conditions, i.e. symmetry in the flow can be assumed to exist when observed from the same plane as where the geometric symmetry exists.

The question is, as follows:

In ANSYS Meshing, there is a feature that says "symmetry".

I've been only using half of my geometry to cut down to half the number of elements and I've been also assuming that these conditions are the same in the other half, which is not represented.

What is this symmetry feature for? Even if I'm using half of my geometry and generating the mesh on this half, do I have to use this feature for anything?

Just wanted to know to prevent me from committing errors that may unvalidate my simulations.
