validity of SST k-w model

Is the SST k-w model valid only for incompressible flows? Thank you.

No.

There are compressible versions of k-w around. You'll have to search for them, as I don't have any references off the top of my head.

Topic is covered in:

Turbulence Model Validation for Hypersonic Flows

You need not couple the model with the mean flow eqs which can speed up the solver by quite a bit. SST model tends to give slightly high heat transfer (10 to 15%) but is quite robust. Remember to validate your implementation against expt. and also Van Driest II.
