Blender and snappyHexMesh
Hallo all!
I am trying to go through a process that create an irregular object from Blender, convert it to STL file with ascii format, insert it into a channel on a slope, finally mesh it with SnappyHexMesh. But it seems that is not easy to be done? Anyone have some tutorial case, better a video uploaded, I didn't find such thing on internet, but it will be cool if someone complete one! Wow! By the way, I simply download a Cup Blender object and converted it into STL file from Blender, but it cannot be open, not an ascii file. I also install the addons of SwiftBloc and SwiftSnap but didn't find them from the Blender interface. I am using Blender 2.68a, some ideas? I wish you all the best! Hao |
Hao,
I'm not sure I understand. Are you suggesting that you are unable to get snappyHexMesh (sHM) to read the STL file because the STL from Blender is a binary file? sHM can read binary STL files, so this shouldn't be a problem. As far as I know, the only tricky part in what you are describing would be patch definition. |

Dear Hao,
I got into the whole Blender -> swiftSnap -> sHM work flow by loosely following this guide. It's takes you through all the stages of structure design however there are a few things you need to be aware of if you aren't already. 1. swiftSnap must be enabled before you start to design (or import) your structure. Furthermore I have found it necessary to initially mark a feature line with a "Feat. level: x" where x can be any given level, in order to make the addon to do its job right. 2. set locationInMesh is very important, as sHM will otherwise mesh all the space around your structure, however not the actual structure. This is really annoying to realise upon inspection with paraView after a 15 minute meshing process. There's much more that I struggled with when I was working out how to do this, and if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask. I hope this is of any help, Ulf |

I am Daniel. I am all new to this topic, and so I would appreciate any help. I have to do the same workflow (Blender -> swiftSnap -> snappyHexMesh) and I am a little bit lost. I am looking for a nice guide which could take me through the first try. I have to model a stove and got an stl file which I would like to mesh with blender/swiftsnap/shm. Could you be so kind and repost the link? Regards, Daniel |
