Experimental verification

Hi All, I'm using multiPhaseEulerFoam in version 10 to simulate a laminar fluidized bed flow.

I've setup a CFD-DEM case using OpenFOAM-LIGGGHTS and able to capture what I see in lab experiments, both quality and quantity.

When I do the same in multiPhaseEulerFoam, with settings adapted from laminar fluidized bed tutorial, the solver does not capture the basic flow hydrodynamics itself.

We are well aware that there are a number of settings here and I started from a tutorial setup. Anyone has experience or ideas where to start from? Is it frictional or kinetic? Any publications, literature on tuning a solver are also helpful.

Best,

Hello Prof., thank you for this report. A quick question: on page 18, in 2D simulation using OpenFOAM, perhaps drum is rotating. Did you see "material" moving tangentially along drum circumference? (I'm having a setup in V10 multiphaseeulerfoam with moving boundary and I dont see any material moving in that direction. I'm thinking what could be issue?)

Could you please elaborate on this "A normal velocity with respect to the cylinder wall was defined as a boundary condition for the granular phase"?

Thank you,

DEM simulations were performed using LIGGGHTS software.

Affermative, yes, drum. is rotating.

Should check for other question.

Hi Prof., thank you for your response. I'm rephrasing my question:

On page 18, is Figure 2-2 from 2D simulation using multiphaseEulerFoam? I'm curious about U.air (or liquid) and U.particles boundary condition on drum wall. Could you please share these details? Did you see "material" moving tangentially along drum circumference?

I've raised another thread on issues I'm facing in multiphaseEulerFoam. Could you please take a look, whenever you get a chance?
