Request: Templates for questions
Hi,
I think the OpenFOAM forum (and presumably other forums) suffers from questions which are low quality in terms of various characteristics, e.g. some of them are vague or very broad, some of them miss crucial information to identify a problem, some of them lack information for any reproduction attempts etc. Often, this situation frustrates forum participants who would like to be of help. Could you please tell me whether it is possible to add a "template" which can guide the inquirer in his/her preparation for questions before he/she hits the "post question" button? If necessary, I can provide an initial template for the OpenFOAM forum to be reviewed and modified by the community. Many thanks. |
Hello HPE,
I share the sentiment but am wondering if it is worth the effort, given that there are already guidelines in the forum about how to ask questions. Is there a way to make a poll about this? Cheers, Claudio |
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I think most users do not follow the static guidelines, and we both share the same sentiment, I think, because the guidelines do not solve the problem. I think channelling users into a certain and common structure at the very moment of conveying the question to the forum has high probability to deliver benefits in terms of time spent and communication quality. |

Yes, exactly. What do you think?
I think, if all agree, a good starting point is to utilise existing templates, such as GitLab has: https://develop.openfoam.com/Develop...estone_id%5D=# I wonder what the website moderation thinks about this proposal? |
Please just see this thread as an example of the problem:
