Gradient with respect to airfoil coordinates

I have a mesh of a 2D airfoil. I want to get the gradient of lift with respect to the airfoil coordinates. I thought the best design variable would be DISPLACEMENT. So in the DEFINITION_DV, I put (5, 1.0 | airfoil | x_coord, y_coord, 0.0). However I get the error
Code:

DV_KIND: invalid option value DISPLACEMENT. Check current SU2 options in config_template.cfg.
The config_template says you can use DISPLACEMENT as a design variable, so why does it not work? Would another option be better for what I'm trying to do?

Hi Ryan,

this information is independent of the actual design variables and is provided by the continuous or discrete adjoint solver. After running the solver you will find a file named surface_adjoint.dat in the directory.
