CD-adapco Supports the EPSRC Summer School in Industrial CFD

Date:Thu, 24 Mar 2005, 12:22 p.m.

London, 24th March 2005. CD-adapco is very pleased to be contributing to and supporting the EPSRC Summer School in Industrial CFD at Nottingham University from the 20th to the 29th June 2005.

The University of Nottingham has identified CFD as a key area. With considerable expertise in this area, the University sees it as a priority for growth. The EPSRC-funded Summer School in Industrial CFD is therefore intended to provide a theoretical and practical grounding in CFD. CD-adapco is delighted to endorse and support this worthwhile initiative.

Students and EPSRC-funded PhD students can attend the Summer school at a marked discount from the normal price. Accommodation on campus and food will be included in the registration price, but the courses can be taken independently of each other (Week 1 or 2, not per day) and hotels can be recommended in the local area if you so decide. Professionals are also more than welcome to join the Summer School if they so wish.

Week 1

Week 1 will run from 20-24 June 2005. The aim of day 1 of the course is to introduce the students to Mathematical Mechanics and then to follow this up with an overview of numerical solution techniques used in contemporary CFD over the following two days. Day 4 will introduce basic physical models and visualisation techniques and day 5 will discuss result interpretations. Trust and Quality issues in numerical predictions will be addressed before closing.

Week 2

Week 2 will run between 27 – 29 June 2005 and aims to present Advanced CFD topics and their associated mathematical models. Each day of this week is planned to as a separate stream and students will choose one of two options each day for two days. Four advanced topics will be offered over the two days, options 1 & 2 running simultaneously:

Day 1

Option 1: Advanced Turbulence (advanced RANS models, LES, DNS)

Option 2: Multiphase Physics and Models (Eulerian and Lagrangian)

Day 2

Option 1: Combustion and Radiation

Option 2: Chemical Engineering Applications and Reactive Flows

Consultancy Clinic

The last day will offer a “Consultancy Clinic” during which students can be helped in defining and formulating their problem with the CFD codes available at Nottingham. This will conclude the course and prepare the students for their CFD work in the future.

CD-adapco is thrilled to be part of the Summer School agenda and looks forward to supporting the course in years to come, and working with the future CFD Engineers it produces.
