Hi,
I want to create the pipe with elliptical area surface in ICEM and mesh through this geometry. Actually, I am new user of this software, is there anyone can help me generating this model.

Tnx in advance

thank you so much for your complete explanation

Actually I am looking to create the geometry like the attached image and the mesh like it. could you tell me more about how can I create this geometry and if I want to create the mesh same as attached photo I can follow your tutorial or the other way?

Thanks in advance

You can create the geometry with the equation of ellipse and and draw those points and then curves here. I wish, ICEM had the button to create directly the ellipse with major and minor axis. Alternatively this can be done in design modeller.

You can easily follow my tutorial to make mesh for this or similar models. There may be other methods to mesh this geometry, which may be better than this one. But frankly speaking I didn't try.

Use gambit or design modeller to design this geometry. Or use CAD software like Catia

I want to create the oval surface in gambit and import it into ICEM and after that complete the geometry and mesh in ICEM. I have these following question:
1- How can I import the .dbs file from gambit to ICEM?
2- is it possible I just create the oval surface in gambit and export it into ICEM and after that I complete the whole model in ICEM?
3- If I want to create the equal-size mesh in the pipe, I have to block it like your tutorial?

Thank you so much my friend

Not possible

Yes. create surface mesh on it and then output this mesh in generic form (.nue) and open this file in excel and copy points (x,y, z coordinates) and past into .dat file. Now you can open this file in ICEM.

Yes

Hi Guys,

I have a problem very similar to the problem here but in my case the elliptical pipe is connected to a cylindrical pipe. I can mesh each one individually but when I want to get the connection between the two pipes everything falls apart! I think my associations are faulty but I have no idea what to do! The main problem is that the connectivity of the cylindrical and elliptical pipes is only at one point on the two curves, i.e. they are not sharing any curves on the plane where they connect. Also the major axis of the ellipse is the same as pipe diameter.

I'm only an intermediate ICEM user, may be more advanced guys have an idea how to do it.

Thanks

Hi,

here is the original IGES file in a zip format,

there is another pipe that connects to the elliptical port which I drew in ICEM (it's an internal flow problem), since it was easier.

If you need my actual ICEM files, let me know so I can get them to you ASAP,

I have huge problems with the chamfer and the connection between the elliptical port and the pipe.

Thank you for your help,
Really appreciate it,

Best Regards,
Ali

The ICEM Files are attached here,

I deleted my associations but left my blocking so you can see my approach.

Thanks for the help,
Ali

Dear Far,

I was wondering if you had time to take a look at this problem, I still haven't managed to get a mesh with an acceptable quality, never mind good quality from this geometry.

Regards,
Ali

Can you please explain me how you have drawn the ellipse in ICEM? I am really confused.
