Hi,
I have been trying to make a simple 2D mesh for a pipe, nozzle and container, which looks like three rectangles joined together in 2D. To allow a mapped mesh with regular rectangular elements I produced the geometry in Design Modeler using three different bodies, with all the sides set as named sections. Then I produced the mesh in the meshing application without any problem. When I try to update the generated mesh in ANSYS workbench (12.0), it comes up with the error message: 'The Mesh cell in Fluid Flow (FLUENT) requires user input before it can be updated.' I have no Idea what I have done wrong, and the error message is not all that enlightening - I would really appreciate any help if anyone has encountered this problem before or has any ideas.
Thanks.

I just had a very similar problem and figured out what the problem was in my case: I had to used "Mapped Face Meshing" (you can choose this under Mesh Control) but then on top you have to set a theoretical thickness for your surface body (in the meshing appication). That solved it for me. Though now I cannot get this mesh into FLUENT. I always get the error message: "An error occured in FLUENT when reading model information. Th emodel information may not be compatible with the mesh"

Anyone an idea how to go about that?
Thanks
Franz

Hennas, it is saying that you need to open the meshing app because it requires some user input before it can be updated... There is something in there that you have not set and it needs you to fix it before it can get a mesh... Once it generates the mesh once, you probably have enough setup for it to run on its own, but you must make sure you save your setup, other wise the batch update has nothing...

Corran's fix worked simply because he went in there and got it to generate a mesh...

Corran's later problem with getting the mesh into Fluent may have to do with not setting up the named selections that Fluent needs for bocos and volume... Many users remember the surface boco's but forget the volume...

Hi,
I'd like to raise again this issue. I have the same problem as you hennas, but I can't see what is wrong. I am able to generate a mesh but in workbench, I still have a question mark on my mesh tab and I have this message that "The mesh cell in Mesh requires input before it can be updated"
It may have a link with the fact that the bodies in my geometry have also a question mark in their status symbol. I looked for the meaning of it but couldn't find what it means.
Does anyone have any idea ? Have you been able to solve your problems ?

Thanks for your help,

May I know what is mean by "bocos"? I was facing the same problem while trying to import my image into FLUENT. the error occurred stated that the model information is not compatible with the mesh.

Oh sorry... Bocos is short for "BOundary COnditions".

In ansys workbench, inside meshing module, check whether against all the options like "sizing control" that have been used, "a tick mark" has come.... For me, i used mapped meshing and it was not getting a tick mark.. so when taken into fluent,it gave the above error... i edited the mapped meshing control saved the mesh.
NOW in workbench, right click on fluent module, RESET it...
Now try to open....

Does everyone know how to create a section (Create a layer) inside the geometry in Design Modeler?

Hey CorranChetano,
How do I set theoritical thickness for the surface body in Meshing app?
Please help.I'm stuck at this step with the same error "The Mesh cell in Fluid Flow (FLUENT) requires user input before it can be updated.'

Dear all,

I have a similar question to Corran's later problem. I imported the mesh file into Fluent. When I open the Setup, it showed the error message, "The model information may not be compatible with the mesh". But, my mesh still showed up.

About the above solution:
Corran's later problem with getting the mesh into Fluent may have to do with not setting up the named selections that Fluent needs for bocos and volume... Many users remember the surface boco's but forget the volume...

I do not quite understand. I imported the mesh file so I did not set up the name selections in Fluent. Does it mean I need to set up for bocos and volume and how could I set up for volume? Thank you.

Hello everyone. I have a similar problem; but easier maybe.

I had a pipe that I have already studied on it on fluent. I reopened it, changed some meshing options and a name of a pipe element. Then I imported it to fluent and I got the error:

" Model information is incompatible with incoming mesh"

I saw that fluent did not update the renamed element when I checked the problem setup> display...

Probably this is the problem, but I couldn't fix it. I am updating on the workbench, but the renamed element still keeps its old name.

I had the same problem 'The Mesh cell in Fluid Flow (FLUENT) requires user input before it can be updated.'

I solved it by simply suppressing it the undesired lines in the Geometry section. Try doing that
