Hello,

I am using ANSYS ICEM CFD 12.0 . I need to analyze the flow over a cylinder. What I am looking is for my mesh to be more refined around the cylinder and in the path of its wake.
I can make the area around the cylinder coarse by using Prism but what i don't know is how to make the path of its wake more refined ???

Using blocking gets my inner side of cylinder to be mesh also. It doesnt respect the cylinder boundary. It meshed trhu and thru.

You should look into "create mesh density." I think that it is designed for just such applications.

If you want to do it with tetra prism, you should use a density box. Density boxes allow you to set the max size within themselves... You can find them under mesh (tab) => Create mesh Density. These are included in several tutorials, including the "fin" example where it is used to refine a wake.

Blocking would be great if you were using ICEM CFD Hexa... IF you get mesh right thru your cylinder, it is because you didn't delete the block that represents your cylinder. You should definitely go thru some tutorials before trying Hexa.

Arif, more specifically, a new thread in the CFX solver forum would be even better.
