Hi

In Gambit, you can produce a mesh that is rectangle's only (not sure of the technical name lol, it's not quad because that produces diamonds etc).

I am trying to do the same but within ansys meshing as I am trying to avoid using gambit because it is very temperamental.

When I insert mesh type, hex dominant and quad. This produces some rectangles but a lot of other poor elements.

The domain is simple, 2mx4mx0.02m. With an inlet on the bottom face 0.1m in thickness along the XZ plane.

Hiiii

Still development is going on ansys meshing. In terms of smoothing and quality check.

To Resolve your issue try to use 'sweep' function, as it any way sweepable body or you can use automatic method (its toggles between patch conforming and sweep). Any way both are same only..

This is giving me an ok mesh but it isn't give me enough control. I need to have refinement in some areas. Tried doing this using the bios function but it doesn't work. I applied the sweep method to the whole body (only option) but any values that I change are only having an effect on 4 out of the 6 faces.

Post a image,so that it could be more helpfull to resolve...

I find size functions never give me what I am after. If we are talking about the same thing? Proximity and curvature yea?

I've posted some pictures, ISO view and a view of the inlet. I am after a fine mesh consistently across the domain, not only on 4 sides (inlet being one of them)

May i know what is your objective?

See Here if you want refine only some part of whole part, then u shld create that as separate domain,so that we ll get fine mesh.

Sorry for saying, still i cld not get clear picture on your problem.

Size functions for separate domains. Not Advanced size function.

Size functions for separate domains. Not Advanced size function.
Objective is to model a pulsating jet using LES.

Because the domain is just open, I think I just need a fine mesh for the whole domain which I can't achieve.

What you mean by creating a seperate domain, will that still interact with the other domains.

If u want fine mesh for whole domain use min size with sweep function. where in sweep, u can give no of nodes over edges also. So that you can get fine mesh according to your requirement.

Divide your domain into parts where u want fine mesh,just like blocking. then give size for individual parts. They will interact automatically only if you keep all parts in one group in design modeler.

This doesn't work, If I alter the number of nodes, it only adjusts for the 4 edge faces and not the front and back faces.

So I would create 3 block sections in design modeller, add them together to make and part and then I will be able to apply a sweep function to each?

Before defining 'Sweep' method, define the face sizing for the Source Face and this sizing will automatically swept to the next face. thus you will have fine mesh for all the faces (complete domain will be fine meshed.)
