fan efficiency and BHP

I am using CFX to model a fan but have had difficulty trying to measure BHP and then using that to get efficiency. If I were to measure BHP by taking the product of the rotational speed and torque applied by the rotating components (blades, etc...) I will get a value that has not taken into account the inertia of the fan wheel. Is this a good approximation for BHP?
I would think that in order to calculate this I would need to run a fluid model that is interacting with a solid model. It seems that it would need to be transient since BHP is the amount of energy required to brake the fan to a stop. Essentially a dynamics problem where we know torque as a function of time as we apply the brake. Please feel free to correct me about any of the above if I am incorrect. Thank you |
