Dear Experts,

Is it possible to show in a single simulaiton to show all three types of flow (laminar, transition and turbulent) as can be seen in a Reynolds apparatus. How can I show this using CFD simulation?

Thanks,

Harendra

Hello Harendra,

I am sure the experts in DNS would have a different approach, but for something quick and dirty, The first thought that comes to my mind is apply the low Reynolds, k-omega turbulence model, Transient, set up the flow condition where you are on the verge of transition, thus you should see the steady laminar flow field develop, now use a disturbance to speed up the transition, it is possible that numerical error alone can trip the flow, but I believe a disturbance is better, because you can control it. (The disturbance can be a surge on the inlet velocity or pressure, how long and the magnitude of the disturbance is not a simple question though).

Kind Regards, Kevin
