Hi all! Well, Iīm doing a model of internal turbulence in a body and Iīm a new user in CFX. When I was WRITING THE DEFINITION FILE, while creating the volume meshing 4, the program stopped with the message: "The surface mesh appears invalid. This could be caused by problems in the geometry definition, the surface mesher, or the inflator. The volume mesher has detected an invalid edge-to-node pointer at edge 608 Nodes: 100, 10874, 11388, 0"

This message repeats even when I have modified a lot of things that I believe would be causing the error (like break surface trimmed in simples surfaces, creating more mesh control, more inflated boundary, surfaces trimmed with more than four edges, etc.).

How can I know where is this edge and nodes? This will help me? Any other thing would be done to find what is wrong? Thanks for who would try to help me. And everybody, too.

Lucio, sounds like you have several subdomains (assuming you are using CFX5 ?). The problem may well be with one of these and how you have defined them. Start simple. Copy the database and then remove the subdomains. Does this mesh ? try surface meshing first then goto the volume meshing. If this is ok then replace the subdomains one at a time. Its tedious but should narrow down the problem. Once this has been done then you need to solve the problem. Are your subdomains nested ? This is covered well in the manual - I'd reccomend you check up on this. If that is the case then some cleaver model modifications may be required to get you around that problem. Hope this helps, Good Luck Bob

Bob. Thanks. Well, In fact I have 3 differents sub domains and Iīm in CFX5. About your question if the subdomains are nested, if it means the they must be connected with the domain with the same surface, the answer is yes, like itīs explained in the manual. By your recommendation I remove all sub doamains, even the solids created to that and the same error appear: Program: NVOL3D Version3.0 Subroutine: CREATE_ADT The surface mesh appears invalid. This could be caused by problems in the geometry definition, the surface mesher, or the inflator. The volume mesher has detected an invalid edge-to-node pointer at edge 462 Nodes: 81, 10786, 11216, 0 FATAL_ERROR_END Canīt I find the trouble looking at the nodes and edges displayed in the error message? How can I know where they are? Do you have another idea? Or somebody? Thanks a lot again for your reply. Lucio.

Lucio, does build give any markers in the iew port where the error may be occuring ? Are you using inflation ? that sometimes can cause the problem. Are you using thin surface or anything like that ? Sorry for being so vague but its one of those nasty problems that are tricky to track down. Bob

Bob, Thanks. I didnīt have inflation yet. I didnīt see any marker in the view port. But I have already solved the problem. I re-built the solid, removing, each part I would believe it was a problem. In the end(believe, when I guess it wouldnīt get where to be wrong), I discovered the error, that was just an incongruent mesh surface( but the solid B-rep and the CREATE SURFACE MESH was already created). What I would like is that the program could view the error, that even seems simple. Thanks again for all. It was good to get your help. Iīm processing the results now, that seems good. Excuse for may english, Iīm from Brazil. Do you know here?

Lucio, no never been to South America. Build can be tricky like that sometimes. We shall have to see how ICEM deals with the problems ! Good luck Bob
