Many tutorials involve expressions. What tutorials have you already done???? My personal advice is to do them ALL before attempting to do anything yourself.

step(x)= 0 if x<0 ; = 0.5 if x=0 ; = 1 if x>0 ...(x can be any expression, but has to be dimensionless). This is covered in the documentation and in some of the tutorials.
