Hi,
Is there a way I can create cut-plane with volumetric rendering of the elements on it in Ensight? I am looking for something like the attached picture (which is from ICEM CFD)

Thanks.

Hi Soroush,

It is possible to create a cut-plane with volume elements in EnSight. In order to get it, do the following. Select your 3D parent part, right-click -> Create -> Clip. You can select any kind of tool that makes more sense with your geometry - for example, you can select the plane tool. Modify its position by dragging it in the viewport, or by entering the parameters directly into the clip edit window (you need to toggle on "Advanced" to do it). Then, select the kind of Domain you want the clip plane to have. Based on your image, I think that "crinkly" is what you are looking for. Create the clip part.
If you now want to visualize also the edges of the cells, click on the "Overlay hidden lines" icon that is in the bottom part of EnSight, toggle on the "specify line overlay color" and click "ok". This will make the lines appear.

More information on each single option in the Help -> How To Manual and in the Help -> User Manual.

Let me know if this is not what you were looking for.

Hi Marina, is it possible to overlay the hidden lines only on selected clip surfaces but not on others? Thanks!

Hi Soroush,

Yes, it is possible.
First, make the overlay lines visible on all the parts by toggling on the "Overlay hidden lines" icon at the bottom. Then, select the parts where you don't want to see the grid, and toggle off the "Hidden Line" icon that is at the top-right (blue box).

Basically, the overlay hidden lines icon at the bottom is the "general" switch, that applies to all parts. The hidden line icon at the top is the attribute specific to the selected parts.

Think about this as when you want to control the lights in a house. You have a switch for each room, so you can control the lights of each room independently, but you need first to have the control unit on. The lower icon is your "control unit", that allows the grid to be visualized on all the parts. Once this is switched on, you can turn off the visualization on the single parts by using the top icon.

Hope this helps. Let me know if this isn't clear.
