I am trying to obtain surface goals of the external flow. I was wondering how I can achieve this without creating a solid surface. What I essentially want is an area goal. Any tips?

I am still having troubles with this. What I want is the average temperatures and pressures at a specific cross section of the computational domain. There are no surfaces at that point.

So far, the only option I could think of was taking a lot of points on the plane of interest, and then averaging. However , this sounds extremely tedious.

Is there anyway to apply a surface goal to a plane?

I am not sure if this works, but have you tried to create a solid body with a surface where you want to apply the SG and then deactivate it in Component Control (then it is considered as fluid). That way you have a surface to apply your SG to.
I have not tried it, but its worth a try.

I was debating trying that, but I thought if the solid was deactivated the surface would be too.

I'll give it a shot and then post an update!

I tried to surpress the solids after specifying the surface goals. It would produce an error saying the surface is not defined.

In the end, I decided to use the tedious point goal average approach.
I have began to introuduce 25 point goals across my area of 7x3 mm to begin my validation of results. I will take the average of these and see how it compares with the experimental results.

Did you suppress it in Component Control?
If you look in tutorial C5 (Rotating Impeller), there is a example of the use of a deactivated solid to put a SG on.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that tutorial tomorrow. It sounds like just what I'm looking for
