Free surface points in fluent

Hello.
I am modeling a channel in fluent. After converging the solver, how can i find free surface level of water in channel. I want to access water height in channel. Meanwhile i have a ramp (step) in middle of channel that it causes air mixed with water. Thanks Last edited by flow_CH; July 16, 2013 at 03:09. |

Can you attach a sketch or a picture from fluent?
You want to know the high of your water line, right? - Maybe make sectional view of your Geometrie and messure the water line by scaling. You can seperate the phases by density or disable one phase in the contours - If you want to get a clear value you can set monitor points in the geometry and trigger the volume fraction. |

Okay I see. The picture is not good enough to get more informations about mesh and dimensions.
It looks like 10% are water, 10% are mixed and the rest is air, is his correct? - It should be rather hard to define a clear layer between both phases (because of the mixture in the contact region). I would try to set monitor points in the inside (line of points) and outline the volume fractions. Maybe you can slide your contour and messure by scaling the dimensions. - P.S: Do you expect the mixture region between both fluids? If your mesh is to coarse it could be a modeling mistake and you should refine your mesh ti get a clearer seperation. Maybe make a picture of your mesh to decide this. |

Yes my dimension of mesh is large. But this is not important too me now.
I just want to find the height of blue zone in image. I used tec plot for that but it show me the Amount of countor not height of that. please see image http://axgig.com/images/12250672713431801948.jpg |

I am not an expert but what I can suggest is; if you only what to know the height of blue region which is the particular value of volume fraction of air then open the output file of volume fraction in MS excel and by using simple macros you can easily find it out.
