Hello!

I am working on a CFD project for a compressor inlet duct where I am requested to determine "total planar kinetic energy in the outlet plane of the duct as a percent of mean axial flow kinetic energy". I have a named selection/PID defined for the desired outlet plane (listed as "internal" in my boundary conditions tab in Fluent), and was able to generate data/contour plots of velocity. My question is whether there's a way in CFD Post or Fluent to determine "planar kinetic energy" or determine the velocity hitting the duct walls (in other words, perpendicular to velocity that is flowing normal to the outlet plane I defined).

I see an option in CFD Post to calculate the Velocity in u/v/w directions, but the geometry I was provided doesn't line up with the Cartesian coordinates (ie, the outlet doesn't line up parallel to any axis). I tried investigating the option of Velocity in "stn frame", but I'm not sure if it is utilizing the coordinate system native to the outlet plane, or other frame of reference. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
