I have a qusetion about setting upa porous media problem.
I have a tank with a packed bed (carbon pellets) that is being used to filter methane. The flow of the gas through the tank is from the bottom to the top. The inlet goes into the tank and rises about a foor from the bottom of the tank. The inlet is capped with a cone shaped flow diverter that diverts the flow down toward the bottom of the tank. The base of the cone has a screen that prevents the pellets from flowing into the inlet. The tank outlet is about an inch from the bottom of the outlet, which sticks out from the side of the tank. My question is, how do I set up the porous zone? Do I use a porous zone or porous jumps. I know the pressure drop of the gas in the bed, and the gas properties (pressure, density, temp, velocity, etc.) but I am not sure how to find any properties of the packed bed. Can anyone help? Use a porous zone, not a jump. Knowing the pressure drop in the bed and the fluid properties, you can use Darcy's law to determine the appropriate permeability of the porous zone.
