Questions on Boundary Profile,Help!!!

Hi,
I am not sure how Fluent profile works. The simple case I am trying right now is to combine two pipes together using boundry profile files. First, I created one profile file from the outlet surface of the first pipe. And then when I started running the second pipe, I used the profile as the boundary condition for the inlet surface. These two pipes have the same diameters,same orientation but different meshes. The second pipe inlet type is velocity-inlet. My questions are: 1. The mass flow rate for these two pipes are noticeably different. Why does this happen? and How can I work around it? 2. Even I used components to transfer the information from profile to the second pipe's inlet, every cell on the inlet surface has the same u,v,w velocity. If this is always the case, what is the point to use profile file? or did I miss something when I tried to use profile? I have been struggling with this for a while, thanks for your help! Cindy |

Hi Cindy
Yes, you are doing something WRONG! It could not figure out waht exactly are you doing WRONG, however I wil try to help you! First when you write and Outlet profile make sure that you write not only U, V and W velocities, but also turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and turbulent energy dissipation rate (TED) Then, read your profile under file read profiles. write the name of the profile Then, impose your boundary conditions at the inlet of the second pipe, you will see a box where you can select each of the profiles (x-velocity, y-velocity, z-velocity, TKE and TED) Then, under Solver>initialize click initialize Then, run two or three iterations Finally, plot the velocities on the inlet. I am sure that you will get the profiles correctly, a little difference could be appreciate because Fluent made an interpolation of the read profiles Best regards Alex Munoz |
