do i need to convert the premesh to the Unstruct mesh first? some of my friend told me that if i do not convert the mesh the fluent will not read the mesh correctly.or if you do not convert the premesh you can not find a .uns file to make .msh file. thanks!

NO. But ICEM and FLUENT have problems if you are trying to write in binary. Some times (great! ) It also works to check the mesh in ICEM an run the AUTOFIX whenever prompted.

but how to creat .uns file?when i do "Write INPUT" after i choose fluent as solver,it needs .uns file, otherwise it will go on to creat .msh file. what we do now is to right click the pre-mesh in the left panel, and chooes "conver to unstruct mesh" which will creat a new .uns file, and then "Write Input" i could get the .msh file. by the way what is "AUTOFIX"?

the uns file is the default mesh file from fluent. just save your case before writing a mesh file and you are fine.

No you cant read the uns file in fluent. You have to export it as A FLuent mesh file

I ICEM; go to file->mesh->load from blocking

This will write the uns file for you.

Step-by-step:

1. Generate the pre-mesh

2. Right-click on pre-mesh and select "Convert to unstructured mesh"

3. From the mesh edit menu, run Check Mesh to make sure that everything is OK

4. Save the project

5. From the "Output" menu tab, select Fluent 6 as the solver, then set up the boundary condition types, then write out the fluent.msh file. It will ask you which *.uns file to load, but if you have saved the project, the default should be right.

6. Accept the defaults and it should write a file called fluent.msh , which always works for me.

7. Optionally, from the file menu, close the mesh, save the project, exit icem and delete the *.uns files.

8. Optionally, gzip fluent.msh, then load fluent.msh.gz in Fluent.

what does this step 2 mean?

2. Right-click on pre-mesh and select "Convert to unstructured mesh"

what changes after "Convert to unstructured mesh",will the mesh be the unstructured mesh for fluent to calculation?is there any influence for fluent to calculation?

i do the following:

file->mesh->load from blocking

and not "Convert to unstructured mesh" and then "write input",this will also creat .msh file for fluent. IS there any differents?

thanks!

I think the two processes are equivalent. I was just giving you a procedure that I know works correctly.
