One possibility is to do it with a macro Under solve / Execute Comands / Define macro / macro-1 o.k.

after that do what you have to do to patch your region and then return to execute Comands : End Macro

Then write macro-1 in the Execute Comand line and choose if you want to execute it every timestep or iteration (default).

The same thing should also work with a journal file but i never did it like that.
