Is the number of processes in parallel the number of physical cores in the CPU?

Default Is the number of processes in parallel the number of physical cores in the CPU?

I've read several forums on the serial vs parallel topic, and I'm still relatively confused on what I should put in for processes in parallel. In this user's guide: https://www.afs.enea.it/project/nept...ug/node990.htm
it uses the term "compute node". Is this the same as physical cores in a CPU?

I am currently using ANSYS 2019 R3, and the computer (a laptop) is using an Intel Core i7-7700HQ with 4 cores. Would this mean that I can simply input "4" in the "Solver Processes" section? (see screenshot above)
