Is the number of processes in parallel the number of physical cores in the CPU? -- CFD Online Discussion Forums

Pulse New Member Join Date: Sep 2020 Posts: 1 Rep Power: 0	I've read several forums on the serial vs parallel topic, and I'm still relatively confused on what I should put in for processes in parallel. In this user's guide: https://www.afs.enea.it/project/nept...ug/node990.htm it uses the term "compute node". Is this the same as physical cores in a CPU? I am currently using ANSYS 2019 R3, and the computer (a laptop) is using an Intel Core i7-7700HQ with 4 cores. Would this mean that I can simply input "4" in the "Solver Processes" section? (see screenshot above)
