Hello,
I am about to buy a Dell Precision M3800, to be used for surface modelling and some CFD, mainly using OpenFOAM. This system has a quad-core i7-4712HQ with 16GB of RAM, together with a Quadro K1100m. It seems to have rather good linux support as well.

As far as OpenFOAM goes, I will be doing mostly pre/postprocessing, of ~5M cell meshes, with sHM. Now, would this be possible on the hardware?
Would 10M cell meshes also be possible?
What are the general rules for RAM-requirements of sHM (I have read around 1M/GB)?

Best regards,
Adam

My experience is that sHM requires more memory than you might expect. I think 5 million cells will be OK, but 10 million is going to be pushing it a bit.
