I think, Fluent is the older. But i'm not sure about the name. See Fluent web site.

But you have to bear in mind that you are dating the companies here rather than the codes. Any company still plugging the same code (or an evolution thereof) that was developed in the 60s/70s/80s is clinging to the past. Both Fluent and CD are flogging new solvers written in languages other than FORTRAN these days so you can't connect them with the "original" CFD codes.

Yes, but I didn't search for an "original" cfd code, but the first "marketed" cfd code (FLOW 3D was released in 1985), the most general possible. PHOENIX was released in 1981, it was the first "on the market" I think. No?

I confirm, I had the opportunity to assist to a talk given by Pr. Spalding, the creator of Phoenics. The Chairman presented him as the creator of the first cfd software, among many other things...

It depends what you call a commercial CFD code. In the 60s, 70s, 80s and into the 90s the best CFD codes for solving real engineering problems were not commercial but the in house codes of high tech companies. In a few areas this is still the case today. These codes were sometimes sold to other engineering companies for rather large sums of money and will predate CHAMs "official" start of commercial activity.
